KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION PROGRAMME
Kidney transplants have been performed in Cuba since 1970. For patients with chronic end-stage renal failure, this is the treatment method that offers the highest quality of life. The implantation of a new, functioning kidney allows these patients to return to a near-normal life and enjoy improved mental well-being, as they are no longer dependent on an artificial kidney.
This programme is a medical-surgical procedure for treating patients with chronic end-stage renal failure. The aim is to restore kidney function by implanting a kidney from a compatible donor (living donor).
